The nominations for the upcoming Academy Awards were announced last evening. Among the snubs and surprises was the absence of Barbie’s Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie from the nominees list. Meanwhile, Ryan Gosling received a nod in the Best Supporting Actor category.
Ryan Gosling who won praise for his role as Ken is now calling out the Academy for director Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie's snub. In a statement, he shared that he is honoured to be nominated. He said, “But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.”
Ryan also shared that Barbie evoked emotions, had a cultural impact and made history and the team's work needs to be recognised. He further added that he's happy for Ameria Ferrera's nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category and other talents that made the film possible.
Oppenheimer took the lead with 13 nominations with several nods for Poor Things and Killers of the Flower Moon. While you're here, check out the full list here:
